Goal(s)

The objective of the course is to introduce some concepts necessary for understanding the sociological dimension of overcoming planetary boundaries. Various social science tools are presented to enable students to grasp the challenges of transitions in all their dimensions.
At the end of the course, students will

be familiar with the basic concepts of behavioral sciences (cognitive science, sociology, and political science, etc.) and how they are important for understanding how individuals subjectively interact with energy and the environment.

Be able to identify the subjective factors that contribute to whether or not individuals and organizations engage in the transition.

Be able to formulate a policy on environmental issues.
Be familiar with the instruments and modalities of public action.

Understand the components of sustainability-oriented fiscal policy.
Be familiar with the instruments of ecological taxation (carbon taxes and markets) and the economic tools of incentive theory.
