Goals
In the first part, the course presents practical approaches of the fluid mechanics conservation equations. It introduces some methods to treat pipes networks problems and trains students to solve industrial problems related to hydraulic machineries.
The second part of the course presents the theory of the transient hydraulic regimes. It sensitizes students to the problems of hydraulic instabilities and related issues.
Content - Application of integral relations (conservation of mass, momentum, and moment of momentum, generalised Bernoulli) to concrete examples
- Basic knowledge of calculations for pipe networks
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic machines: operation and inner workings
- Analysis of transient conduit flow: pressure fluctuations and water hammer
PrerequisitesContinuum mechanics: basic knowledge
Fluid mechanics (course 1A from the 1st semester):
Integral relations, hydrostatics, head loss
Basic knowledge on the compressibility of fluids
Basic knowledge of wave propagation
Elasticity: pressurized thin wall tubes
Tests Session 1 : CC (60%) - CT (40%)
Session 2 : the grade obtained in this session will replace the CT's grade
CC : Homework (bonus) + TPs and BE reports
CT : final examination (duration 3h)
final assessment : 60% DS + 40% CC
CC 40% + CT 60%
The exam is given in english only
