Goal(s)

  • to present the basics of the mechanical behaviour depending on the time with an application to the concrete
  • to use practically the notions of elasticity learnt in the first year class
  • to be able to design at limit states elements in reinforced concrete under simple sollicitations (beam under bending moment, column in compression, compounded flexion)
  • to understand the basis of reinforced concrete
  • to take in hand a finite elements software in order to analyze structures in elasticity (beam, slab, dam)
    Learning outcomes :
  • to design the ULS of a rectangular isostatic reinforced concrete beam subjected to simple bending.
  • to represent the reinforcement of a reinforced concrete beam.

Content(s)

Civil engineering structures are mainly built in reinforced/prestressed concrete. This module wants to instruct students to the basics of structures design under various sollicitations, leaned on notions of limit states presented in the Eurocode 2 (course 1). Materials behavior is covered in the introductory course (course 2). This course allows students to characterize and formalize the behavior of non-aging and aging materials using simple models (spring, damper, pad). All of the concepts are applied through a structural modeling project and projects addressing the behavior of steel and concrete materials and the models that can be made of them.

Prerequisites

resistance of materials, continuum mechanics, elasticity.

Test

Session 1
Final exam (ET1) : supervised written exam 1h30 (materials) + 2h30 (reinforced concrete)
Continuous assessment (CC1) : reports of project

Session 2
Final exam : new written or oral exam (ET2) to replace session 1 assessment (ET1)
Continous assessment : no retake, session 1 assessment is counted for session 2 (CC1=CC2)

The exam is given in english only FR

Calendar

The course exists in the following branches:

  • Curriculum - Master's Degree in Engineering HOE - Semester 7 (this course is given in english only EN)
