Goal(s)

  • Heat exchangers:
This course covers heat exchangers. The objective is to specify the basic concepts which make it possible to calculate and size energy systems for the production/conversion of energy, but also to identify the limits of their possible optimization.
  • Transformers:
This teaching concerns electrical devices such as power transformers. The objective is to understand how the object works, know how to model it and insert it into the resolution of electrotechnical problems.
  • Electronic power converters:
Understand the need for power electronics, or static conversion. After describing the components constituting the power electronics systems, the basic architectures will be presented and analyzed. Their choices and sizing will be exposed, as well as their control laws.

Content(s)

Heat exchangers:
o Description of the exchangers
This first part presents the different exchanger technologies
tubular, plate, tube-and-shell exchanger)
o Evaluation of thermal performances and sizing of heat exchangers
This second part introduces heat exchanger sizing tools
(DTLM, NTU methods)
o Intensification of heat transfers
This third part presents the different concepts allowing us to identify the
heat transfer (finned surface, etc.)
o Heat exchangers with phase change: evaporator and condenser
o Problems encountered with the exchangers
Clogging of exchangers
o Humid air diagram: Applications to air treatment and air conditioning towers
cooling
This chapter is dedicated to the presentation of the properties of humid air, the processes of
air treatment and conditioning
