Goal(s)
This course, organized around theoretical, experimental and numerical activities, aims to train engineering students on essential concepts of presurized flow hydraulics and transient flows.
At the end of this course, students will be able to :
- Design simple hydraulic circuits based on specific usage requirment (pressure, flow),
- Select the appropriate hydraulic machine and understand its operating limits (concepts),
- Model a pressurised hydraulic circuit with a hydraulic machine and determine its stable operation,
- Determine the permanent and exceptional forces (transient) transmitted by the flow to the structures.
Responsible(s)
Content(s)
Hydraulic in pressurized ducts:
- Application of integral relations (conservation of mass, momentum, and moment of momentum, generalised Bernoulli) to concrete examples
- Basic knowledge of calculations for pipe networks
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic machines: operation and inner workings
- Analysis of transient conduit flow: pressure fluctuations and water hammer
Fluid mechanics (courses 1A) : integral equations and hydrostatic
Test
Session 1
Final exam (ET1) : 3h written exam on the whole program
Continuous assessment (CC1) : 3 lab reports (2/3) + 1 BE report (1/3) + 1 home work (facultative 1pt bonus). Unexcused absence in tutorials are penalised. CC1 assessment cannot be retaken.
Session 2
Final exam (ET2) : the new mark ET2 replaces the mark ET1 obtained in session 1
Continuous assessment (CC2) : session 1 assessment retained (CC1=CC2).
