Goal(s)

The aim of this course is to raise students' awareness of socio-ecological issues (planetary limits, including global warming and its impact on biodiversity, the main conclusions of the IPCC, analysis tools), energy-related issues (history, key figures, current and future challenges) and the levers of action available to the school's engineers.

The pedagogical objective is also to gain a scientific understanding of these issues, to master the key figures, to develop a critical mind and to take an interest in the subject and the evolution of knowledge, by following the news and reading.

Responsible(s)

Delphine RIU

Content(s)

  • Anthropocene, planetary limits, great acceleration - Illustrations on 2 limits: climate change and biodiversity, main conclusions of the IPCC report
  • Impact analysis tools: introduction to life cycle assessment, carbon footprint, sustainable development objectives
  • History and key figures on energy: entropy, physical limits, impacts, consumption, resource extraction, societal impacts;
  • Issues and levers for action for Ense3 engineers

Students will be required to take and pass the Sulitest(C), an international test for benchmarking skills in sustainable development and social responsibility.
