ECTSECTS
1.5
Goal(s)
To give to students the ability to identify the stakes of energetic improvement of existing or novel conversion cycles in the frame of the limits fixed by thermodynamics laws as well as by existing technologies (materials, combustion...)
Content(s)
The course is mainly dealing with engineering thermodynamics of heat-engines. Numerous technical drawings are used in order to give a better understanding of the concepts and of the stakes of rational energetics.
The first part concerns brief remaindering of simple cycle analysis, next thermodynamics laws are presented and mixed to technological and physical limits to identify the potential improvement of simple cycles.
For each family of heat engine (gas-turbines, turbojets, internal combustion engines, steam-turbines) an energetic analysis is developed in term of energetic performances as well as possible improvement of the basic cycle.
1) Recap : thermodynamics laws : states variables, limits and stakes of rational management of heat-energy.
2) Advanced gas-turbines and turbo-jets
3) Advanced internal combustion engines
5) Advanced steam turbines
6) Cooling machines
Prerequisites :
Basic knowledge of thermodynamic principles, thermodynamic laws and cycles (perfect gas and vapour)
Test
Brief final exam (multiple choice questionnary) and personal work mentioned above
