Goal(s)
Provide the students with some knowledges of heat transfer complementing the concepts presented in the first-year course
Content(s)
1. Reminder on the first principle of thermodynamics, heat equation, similitude principles
2. Steady and unsteady conduction, characteristic time of diffusion and of capacity, Biot number, thermal resistance, thermal shock, oscillatory temperature
3. Forced and natural convection, non-dimensional numbers (Nusselt, Grashof and Rayleigh), correlations, simple examples
4. Application to heat exchangers
5. Radiative heat transfer, exchanges between the surfaces of black and grey bodies
Prerequisites :
thermodynamics, first-year courses in fluid mechanics and heat transfer
