CFD I (ME)

Informations générales

  • ECTS

    ECTS 2

Goal(s)

The cours provides some key concepts on the discretization of the systems of PDEs governing incompressible flows so as to give a better understanding of the CFD codes daily used in the industry for flow analysis. A workshop gives to the students the opprotunity to learn how to code softwares more complex than the basic examples previously studied in courses devoted to numerical analysis.

Content(s)

Solution methods for PDEs, incompressible Navier-Stokes formulation and associated discretization

WORKSHOP (2-student group) :
simulation of an (incompressible) flow of interest using an available software. Tasks to perform include the development of specific objects and the use of existing objects provided by the lecturer as well as critical analysis of the techniques applied and the numerical solutions obtained.
Example : flow through a dam (porous medium), 2D flow over a profile (ideal fluid), lid-driven cavity, 2D or axisymetric boundary-layer, etc.

Prerequisites :
Basic knowledge on PDEs, incompressible fluid mechanics, C language, numerical analysis : solution of large linear and non-linear systems using iterative techniques.
