Goals

The purpose of this Course Unit is to deal with what is the new energy context, in all its complexity.
Specifically, this course unit focuses on the economic, environmental and policy issues related to changes in the energy landscape in terms of energy supply. Analysis of economic processes that are taking place as a result of new constraints (technical, market, environment, ...) are presented. The emphasis is on the practical consequences that result and the changes they induce on the behaviour of actors in the energy sector.

This Course Unit will also provide students with the regulatory and policy knowledge to better understand the needs and challenges of the energy sector.

Content

This Course Unit is divided into several parts:
Economics of Energy & international energy markets (C. Locatelli/S. Rossiaud)
• Understand the strategies of actors on the hydrocarbon markets
• Understand the pricing mechanisms of a non-renewable energy resource

Economics of energy innovation in a competitive framework (O.IONESCU)
Assess the steps of innovation process from R&D to full commercialization of new technologies
Characterize a given stage of specific technology development
Identify and analyze new energy technologies, their roles and economic consequences on the market and stakeholders
Construct a cross-disciplinary approach

Energy Policy & Sustainable Development (O. BLANCHARD)
Integrate and understand economic issues in technological choices and energy and climate policies in developing countries
Have a critical reflection on the SD strategies of the actors
Be a player in the emmissions permits market
Regulation of Energy networks (H.Kalfallah)
The course focuses on the regulation of network industries with a particular focus on the electricity markets. More particularly, it addresses the pricing issues and the economic mechanisms mobilized for the activation of electricity demand and their efficiency in terms of consumption.
Economic support mechanisms for the development of renewable energies (ENR) (Stéphane Robin)
Understand the motivations of renewable energy support mechanisms
Identify the main classes of renewable energy support mechanisms: price instruments and quantity instruments
Analyze several support mechanisms for renewable energies currently active in Europe

Energy economics (SEM 2A)

Exam, oral presentation, reports

CC 50% + CT 50%
