Goal(s)
This pratical session aims to illustrate one very important unit process which is used in the field of water treatment : the elimination of suspended solids using settling tanks. One also illustrate the phenomena of coagulation/flocculation when the suspension is made of colloïdal particles

The session is divided into two part :
- the first part is made on a jar-test unit. It aims at observing the coagulation/flocculation process. It aims also at finding the optimum chemical reagent which are used to coagulate or flocculate the suspension as well as their concentration.
- a second part is devoted to the comparative study of the settling process and its efficiency when chemical reagent are or are not used. The experimentation is made on a pilot settling tank and results from the first part are used to settle the parameters necessary to operate the settling tank
