Goal(s)

  • Understand water pathway at watershed interfaces (part 1 : physical hydrology)
    Vertical process of soil-atmosphere exchange (infiltration, evaporation and evapotranspiration of vegetation, radiation budget) runoff process at catchment scale (surface and subsurface runoff), water balance, hydrometry
  • Understand freshwater ecosystems functioning (part 2 : hydroecology)
    Aquatic food chain, ecology of aquatic organisms (phytoplankton, microorganisms, and fishes), biogeochemical cycles of biogenic elements (C, O, N, P), biotic and abiotic factors applied to lacs and rivers

Content(s)

An integrated approach (quantitative and qualitative) of the hydrosystem is proposed. The concepts of water flow and biogeochemical functioning of aquatic ecosystems will be addressed at the catchment scale. This course has two parts: (i) Physical hydrology (vertical exchange process at soil-atmosphere interface, lateral flow at slope and catchment scale) (ii) Hydroecology (functioning of aquatic ecosystems). Practical fields (hydrometry, infiltrometry and hydrobiology) and a numerical training course are provided in this course.

Final exam (CT): 3 hours written exam
Continuous assessment (CC): lab work, no retakes for CC

CC 50% + CT 50%
