Goal(s)
The objective of this course is to provide basic knowledges about the materials used to design and implement an industrial power conversion electrical device.
The different materials are described with their main properties. For magnetic materials, the analytical model based on reluctance is given for a first design.
Content(s)
Electrical conductors (superconductors and resistive materials, Joule losses, skin and proximity effects...)
Magnetic materials (quantities H, M (J) and B, hysteresis cycle, hard magnetic materials (permanent magnets) and soft (circuits and magnetic sheets), iron loss, characteristics of different magnetic materials)
Magnetic circuits (interest of magnetic circuits, study unsing networks of reluctances, magnetic forces and torque, permanent magnet circuits, digital simulation softwares)
Insulating materials, electrostatic (sizes S, P and D, examples of a power line, characteristics of different dielectric materials)
Prerequisites
Basic laws of electromagnetism (Maxwell's law)
Session 1: written exam
Session é: written or oral exam
