The objective of the "Sizing and protection of electrical networks" unit is to describe the technological choices to size and operate the transmission, distribution and industrial electrical network. The protection means that are implemented in order to protect the network devices and people are also studied. The impact on these choices and methods related to the integration of renewables, storage and electric vehicles is also analyzed.
At the end of this module, students will be able to:
• Know technical and economic rules of sizing electrical networks (transmission, distribution and industrial).
• Select protections regarding the type of electrical network, the constraints it faces while complying with objectives of security and service quality
• Be aware of the impact of new actors of Smart Grids (renewable energy producers or not, storage, electric vehicle) on the development of electricity networks.
In order to get these skills, this module is divided into 4 classes.
Session 1 : ratio of the continuous evaluation CC (65%) - ration of the final individual exam CT (35%)
Session 2 : no session 2 for the CC et for the CT the mark of session 2 replace the one of session 1
The CC consists of the mean of a lab report and quizz (ENEDIS, a study of an industrial project (Scheider Electric) and a questionnaire on the RTE visits. The CT concerns the protection part.
